Understanding Vein Problems
Varicose veins and spider veins are more than just cosmetic concerns—they can signal underlying circulatory issues that, if left untreated, may affect your overall leg health. Taking the time to understand your veins, how they function, and what causes them to malfunction is the first step in addressing these concerns effectively and maintaining long-term wellness.
Spider veins are small, thin blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin. They often look red, blue, or purple and can appear in web-like or branching patterns on the legs. While usually harmless, spider veins can sometimes cause mild discomfort, including itching, burning, or a tingling sensation. Many people seek treatment for spider veins primarily for cosmetic reasons, but addressing them early can also prevent progression and associated discomfort.
Varicose veins, on the other hand, are larger, swollen veins that bulge above the surface of the skin. They can create a feeling of heaviness, throbbing, or cramping in the legs, particularly after long periods of standing or sitting. Swelling, skin discoloration, and restless legs are common symptoms, and in more severe cases, untreated varicose veins can lead to skin changes, chronic inflammation, or even venous ulcers that are difficult to heal.
